South Sea Pearl is a Praanij gem. It is found in a distinct shell. Pearl cannot be found in every shell found in sea. It can be found at seashore and in bays since it is Praanij and produced by water shells. Pearl can be found in the bay of Manar in Shri Lanka and at the seashore of Kathiyawad in Gujarat. But the pearl so found is not of high quality.

 
The South Sea Pearl found in the bay of Persia (in a Persian bay) is thought to be the best due to its beauty (prettiness) and quality. The pearl found in the areas surrounding Baharain, Basara, Kausir and Jeddah, etc. is also considered to be of fine quality due to its lustre. It is not found in abundance.
